Excerpt from: "What
If?": The 2008 Destination Inspiration Wall Calendar
January
"What if your day brought only fear and concern,
No food, no home and no dollar to earn.
And the dawn of the sun brought not warmth but
cold dread
Would see your life differently then, instead?" |

Excerpt from: "The
Down Town"
"With Grace"
"She told me she had seen me before, she said she knew
me well. I nodded, smiled and placated her - thinking her world
must be living hell. I thought that I would buy her some lunch,
share about Christ and give her day some peace. But surprise of
surprise she had a word for me and never let me speak. She told
me that she knew me well and knew why I there and warned me to be
careful because this world was never fair. Look at me she said,
you think I'm down and out. But I've got everything I need and
more than you, I'm sure. I've got my God within me - living in my
heart." |

Living the Proverbs Life: A scripture by scripture
translation of Proverbs for today's Christian (Non-Fiction)
Excerpt from:
Proverbs 1:1 - The
proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
"Nearly
every form of writing must have an introduction. Every book,
analysis, report or letter has some preface that either describes who
is doing the writing, or who the writing is directed to and/or what
the writing is about. Proverbs 1-9 does all three, but only verse one
says who is doing the writing. It is, as we all know, Solomon. And he
identifies his credentials for writing these proverbs as first being
the son of David. But more importantly, he identifies David as being
the king of Israel. Now we all know that Solomon reigned as king of
Israel and when Solomon mentions the title “king of Israel” it’s easy
to assume that he is speaking of himself. But in fact, if we look at
the term “king of Israel” as being a modifier, the modifier comes
after David and not after Solomon and therefore the reference is to
David as being King.
Solomon holds his reign as king as insignificant
compared to that of his father. He does not boast of himself, brag
about his
credibility or expound upon his expertise. He is simply the son of
greatness and that in and of itself is enough." |

The Virtuous Woman's Club: A daily emailed study group
and online journal for today's virtuous women
Excerpt from: Proverbs 31:10 "Who
can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies."
"King Lemuel's mother
tells her son, 'he who finds a wife finds a good
thing.' Often it is the single woman who is reminded
that it is the man's job to 'find' a wife and at that
time the message is also given that it is the woman's job to
'be ready' when she is found. But in the virtuous
woman scriptures the message is far more thorough and covers all
bases. The message goes first to the man - here
is what you
are looking for and why. The message then is to the women - here
is what you should be and why." |

Cursing the Myth that Blacks are Cursed
"Let’s
begin at the beginning of this myth; Genesis.
Genesis is the first book of the Bible and in it is
contained, the first people, the first marriage, the first sin, the
first murder and the first curse.
But that curse was not one cast against the Black race.
No that first curse was given in the garden of Eden for
turning away from God.
Notice Genesis 3:14 (NIV) “So the Lord
God said to the serpent, ‘Because you have done this, cursed are
you above all the livestock...’
And to Adam he said, ‘Because you listened to you wife....
cursed is the ground because of you;’” God is quiet clear on his
curses.
And the bible is clear that a curse is given from the lips of
God himself." |

Excerpt from: Adoptive Parents are Expecting
Too
"Women
throughout history have felt the same feelings I have.
Husband or not, they’ve gone through the same dichotomy of
emotions. And married
or not men throughout time have experienced the same concerns and
thrill. Most all of
these experiences are commonly related to pregnancy. And so the description of these experiences make it likely
that in spite of having begun the adoption process I must also have
suspected I was pregnant, taken a home pregnancy test and confirmed
the truth of an impending child.
The
truth however, is that, no, I am not “with child,” but I am
expecting a child. Just
as instantly as seeing a home pregnancy test turn blue, my husband
and I licked a stamp, sealed an envelope and dropped it in the
mailbox – creating that same wonder, excitement, anticipation and
fear that is generated from a positive in-home test." |

go shopping instead of going to choir rehearsal. Mommy said they
might go shopping after rehearsal.
Then Angela wanted to play with her friend Michelle instead of going
to rehearsal.
"Maybe
Michelle would like to come to rehearsal with you." Daddy suggested.
"No."
Angela said. "I don't think she would." Then Mommy said, "Well maybe
Michelle can come over for dinner tonight, but as for now, we have
rehearsal to go to."
Angela
started to become angry. "I don't want to go to rehearsal! If I
can't go shopping, and I can't go to Michelle's, then I'll just stay
home!" |

"Danny the Superhero" Study/Story series for
parents and kids 8-11 yrs.
Excerpt from: Danny Versus the "Humble-Bee" - A
Study/Story of the Beatitudes
"First grade was a really big deal. Finally, Danny was going to
be on the big playground with the big kids. There would be no
more naps, no more snack time and most of all Danny would finally have
lunch in the cafeteria with the big kids! It was what he'd been
waiting for all summer long and now it was the first day of school and
Danny was not happy at all.
When Danny and his classmates had visited Mrs. Tandy's
class she had shown all her new students the cubbies where they would
put their coats and lunch boxes every morning. Danny's friend
Louis said he was going to have a Sponge Bob Square Pants lunch box.
And Henry was going to have one too. In fact, all the boys in
his class said they would have the same lunch box - even though the
girls said they were dumb. But here it was the first day and all
Danny had was a brown paper bag." |

Urban Christian novels for African American Teens
Excerpt from: Double Deep
"I hate being 17 and a junior
in high school. Besides, my high school sucks. I mean, well, I guess
it's really not so bad, it's just that, like the teachers are a big
joke, and the kids are all separated from each other. I mean, it's
like, the White kids keep to themselves and the Blacks totally dis me
'cause my best friend is white. And then my parents are always
buggin' on me all the time about my grades and stuff. Which I guess
is nothin' new, I mean, everyone has problems with their parents. But
my parents are like in the middle of this big divorce. So what,
right? Everybody's getting divorced. Yeah, I know. Besides, it's not
like we're this great family or anything."
